Elect a Hotline Representative

The purpose of a Group Hotline Rep is to represent your Home Group on the Central Oregon A.A. Hotline Committee. This allows your home group to fulfill their responsibility by taking part in the local 12-Step work by taking one or more shifts a week answering calls that get forwarded to a members phone when someone calls the Central Oregon Intergroup A.A. Hotline looking for help with their drinking.

Service Position Requirements to be a hotline Rep for your group:

  • 6 month sobriety
  • 1 year term (this is adjustable by your groups conscience)
  • Understands the 12 Traditions and can adhere to A.A.’s Singleness of Purpose and Tradition of non-affiliation. 

Duties: 

  • You and/or members of your group will answer the Hotline through your personal phones which calls will be rerouted through during your once a week shift.
  • 1.) Pass calls onto qualified 12-Step volunteers
  • 2.) Provide information for anyone looking for a meeting
  • 3.) Direct anyone looking for help with a problem other than alcohol to the proper hotline or 12-Step fellowship.
  • Attend Hotline Committee meetings and give a report about the calls you received. 
  • Attend your group’s monthly business meetings to give a report and sign people up to be on the 12-Step call list.
  • Starting one month before you rotate out of this position, start announcing the position will be open and when. Start looking for someone who may want the position when you rotate out. 
  • When a new Hotline rep is elected, pass on the Hotline Rep binder to them so they are equipped.
  • When the Hotline Chair rotates out, consider making yourself available to serve as the Intergroup Hotline Chair.
